THE RUNNING MANIACS

If you are interested in running or walking with a great group of people in Bowmanville or Newcastle, you are in luck! The Running Maniacs originated in Bowmanville but over time expanded into Newcastle.

As the coach of the team, I am a runner, a triathlete, a warrior, and a Twist Sport Conditioning Coach. I have experience with running in various marathons and half marathons both locally and internationally. I pride myself by motivating people to go further than they believed they could. I have a strong athletic background from both a physical and educational standpoint.

You can register and become a maniac online at no cost if you wish. By doing this you are then able to create your own events, post photos of your events, invite friends and communicate with other runners. Somewhat like what you do on facebook! If you have difficulty doing this please contact me! I think it is important to create a maniac running culture to keep the team active, motivated and connected.

WALKING:

If you walking is your niche we provide motivation and support as well! Barbara is our head walking coach who is very experienced. The walking group meet only out of the Newcastle location. It is a great way to keep fit all year round.

THE RUNNING MANIACS

The running maniacs are a fun group of runners who will encourage one another and strive to be their best. Our group ranges from all different backgrounds and aspirations. Some runners will train for marathons or half ?????? ????????? marathons, where others prefer the 5K and 10K distances. Whichever you decide we embrace and respect your goals.

The Running Maniacs run all year round, hence MANIACS! Weekday runs are shorter and range from 5K to 8K. Weekend runs are longer and can range anywhere from 10K upwards depending on the time of year and the events we are training for. Training runs are generally weekdays. The training runs include hill training, tempos and speed work. Not a mandatory element, but if you are looking to improve your times this is the way to go!

There are 2 groups Bowmanville and Newcastle. Are you an early riser? Perfect! Join us at 5:30AM at the Bowmanville Mall! If you prefer evenings, join the Newcastle group at 6:30PM out of the Newcastle REC Centre. Weekend runs will alternate between these 2 locations at 7AM on Saturdays (Tim Horton's Newcaslte).

There is a life time membership of only $75.00. For this nominal fee a certified coach will provide you with unlimited training calendars, training advice and access to your quality team website.

WHAT THE MANIACS DO:

As a team we compete in a variety of events both locally and internationally. We decided 2006 to host our own event. Each year it continues to grow so that we can provide fund raising for the Walk For Guide Dogs. Without the kind sponsors and volunteers for this event, it would not be as successful as it is.
