8th Annual Fall Festival Event

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

On the first Saturday each October, the Running Maniacs host a Fall Festival Run and walk.  We are proud to raise money for the Walk for Guide Dogs.  Each year we grow and are able to contribute to a unique and great cause.

NB: Mandatory Pre-race Participants Announcements at 8 am sharp!

 

All events will be chip time.

Chipped timing for walkers will be separate from the runners!

Photos will be available for purchase so please smile during your race :)

All Participants receive a Tech T

**Please be mindful when registering for the 5K or 10K walk.  Please Note: Walkers start separately with mandatory rule: a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times**

This beautiful event is held at the Newcastle Community Centre (click here for map) in Newcastle. All participants will receive a custom pair of racing gloves (in place of a finisher's medal) and a Tech T-shirt.  Random prizes will be awarded as soon as you cross the finish line.  After the race, you can wander downtown Newcastle for special festival activites and shopping.  Post race apples, Pita Break flatbread, coffee and healthy snacks will be provide for you to enjoy!

You may pick up your race kit at the Newcastle Community Centre on Friday October 4th  from 6pm to 8pm.  There will be race kit pick up on race day from 7am - 8am only.

Registration will open in the spring 2013. Space is limited. Register EARLY to take advantage of early registration fees!

Run and/or walk through one of the most scenic routes in Canada!  This has been our golden "secret". Not until you actually run it will you get to experience a great route and the small town feel of the Fall Festival.

10K Route-

Description- Starting at the REC centre you will head south to the end of the street.  Turn right onto Sunset staying to the right.  Just after the 1K mark, turn right at Mill St.  Once over the 401 bridge, turn right on Toronto.  This will wind down towards the water where you will connect to a path along the waterfront.  At the end of the path you will be at Lakebreeze, which you cross onto Shipley and will see another path on your right.  Follow along the back of cute homes with unique back yards!  This will take you to Mill Street which will start your return back.  Continue straight, passing your water station, heading through new online casino the Hole in The Wall.  Once over the 401 bridge you will turn again at Robert St.  As soon as you get back onto this familiar street, you will now take the Lion's Trail which will be on your right.  This takes you to King Street.  Starting up the hill for a very short time new online casino you will see a Cat Walk, which will take you into the residential streets.  You will connect to Foster Creek, winding around to Edward.  Once here you will hear the announcements bringing you in strong!

Description- starting at the Rec Centre, head south down Rudell to the end of the street.  Turn left and stay to the left until you come to Mill.  Head south, over the 401 bridge.  First street, Toronto, turn right.  This street will wind south to a path which you follow along the water front.  At the end you go north to Lakeshore.  Cross the street onto Shipley.  Immediately to your right there will be a path which will take you up towards Mill St.  Continue to the intersection.  Here you do a hairpin turn taking you South.  Turn left at Metcalf. At Riley go south until Lakeshore.  Turn right and enjoy the view! The road will wind around the boat launch area.  Follow around the corner taking you north up towards Mill St.  Back at the corner, head north through the hole in the wall.  Turn left at Robert St.  Immediately turn right onto the Lions Path.  It will take you to Hwy #2.  Turn right for a short run to the cat walk.  You take this to Foster Creek.  It winds around to Edward.  Take this to Rudell and finish strong!

 

5K Route - From the Rec Centre, head sout the the end of the street where you will have to turn left.  Keep to the right.  Keep note of your surroundings because you will be coming back the same way :)  Once you hit Mill Street head south, over the 401 bridge, throught the hole in the wall.  At the first interstection you will see a water station.  Turn right.  Go to the end of this residential road.  You can only turn left and follow this road back to Mill Street.  Heading back, you will then pass the intersection, through the hole in the wall, back over the 401 bridge.  The first street on your left you will follow back to the Rec Centre.
